Situated in a historic Brooklyn brownstone built in 1901, the 2,100 square foot residence was acquired by James and Christine in 2017 with a vision to undertake a comprehensive renovation. Stewart-Schafer, renowned for its expertise in interior design and architecture, embarked on a transformative project to restore and enhance the home's original charm. Our team meticulously revitalized the space by repainting the fireplace and refinishing all flooring surfaces. Custom light fixtures were meticulously crafted, and bespoke millwork closets were strategically integrated throughout the home, optimizing both functionality and aesthetics. Hand-refinishing the stairs and railings, along with repainting the spindles, breathed new life into the staircase area. To honor the home's historic character, we meticulously added molding to replicate the original plaster detailing. The master bathroom underwent a complete overhaul, stripped down to its studs to accommodate a fresh design vision. In the master bedroom, plumbing was strategically relocated to reconfigure the layout, allowing for the preservation and refurbishment of the original clawfoot tub, meticulously re-enameled to its former glory. A key highlight of our design intervention was the introduction of a skylight above the vanity, flooding the space with natural light and imparting a sense of airiness. The entire bathroom was tastefully retiled, and a custom vanity and mirror were meticulously crafted to infuse the space with contemporary elegance.
